Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sesan Fagbayi, has said preparation is underway to begin the Adire carnival.
The Commissioner gave the hint while speaking with journalists in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, affirming that the carnival would showcase the importance of the indigenous fabric known as Adire.
Fagbayi stated that the originality and quality of the locally made Adire would be further promoted for more international acceptance, pointing out that the celebration would serve as an avenue to sensitise the people on the dangerous effect of wearing the look-like Adire fabrics.
The commissioner stated that the present government was determined to promote, protect, as well as preserve the culture of the people for economic growth and development.

He called on all stakeholders to embrace and revitalise the indigenous fabrics, emphasising that Adire has become a global demand that must be preserved and sustained in the international market.
In a related development, the commissioner has reiterated the state government’s commitment to partner with traditional rulers in sustaining cultural value, tradition, and heritage.
He said this during a courtesy visit to the palace of Olu Orile Ilawo, Oba Prof. Alexandra Macgregor, saying traditional institutions were the custodians of traditions that should not be ignored.
Oba Macgregor, in his remarks, assured the government of his support, advising the ministry to intensify efforts to rid the market of counterfeit Adire.
