Ogun approves N50m for renovation of Social Devt Institute

Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Chief Samuel Aiyedogbon who disclosed this in Abeokuta said the money would be used for among others, the renovation of two staff quarters, two female hostels, dining hall, classroom blocks and an administrative block.
“Aside from the fact that this gesture will increase the intake of the students into the institution, which would in turn boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state government, it will equally serve as a morale booster for the students,” he said.
The commissioner stated that the school, built by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, had been abandoned by previous governments but that Governor Ibikunle Amosun gave directive for the immediate renovation after he was moved by the poor state of the institute when he visited it recently.
“We cannot but continue to thank Governor Amosun for the approval and immediate release of the fund,” he said, noting that he is the first governor of the state to visit the institution since its establishment in 1956.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Yemi Olanrewaju, assured that renovation work would begin in earnest.
The gesture, according to her, would serve as a morale booster to both the students and staff of the institute, assuring that the money would be judiciously utilised.
