Ogun State House of Assembly yesterday asked security agencies to ensure sanity by checking illegal use of number plates and siren in the state.

The resolution followed a motion by a member, representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Hon. Akeem Balogun, seconded by his Sagamu II counterpart, Hon. Ademola Adeniran.

Speaking on the motion, two lawmakers – Adegoke Adeyanju and Oludaisi Elemide, submitted that it has become imperative for security agencies to checkmate illegal use of official number plates by unauthorized persons, particularly, ex-political office holders.

The lawmakers added that unlawful use of siren and the coverage of number plates could be used to perpetrate crimes in the society.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Hon Olakunle Oluomo, had announced the composition of a nine-man Selection Committee of the Assembly. The committee chaired by the speaker has the Deputy Oludare Kadiri as Vice Chairman. Other members include the Majority Leader, Sheriff Yusuf, Chief Whip, Atinuke Bello, Minority Leader, Ganiyu Oyedeji, Minority Whip, Jemili Akingbade, Yusuf Adejojo, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi and Olakunle Sobukanla.

The speaker said the composition of the committee was in line with the Assembly’s standing order and urged the committee to submit its report within one week.

Also, the speaker urged residents to desist from dumping refuse in drainage channels to avoid flooding as Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had forecast.
