The Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly and the member representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Lukman Adeleye, has officially dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker was received into the ruling party at his Ibefun ward in Odogbolu LG, alongside thousands of his supporters.
Adeleye recently joined the APC alongside five other PDP lawmakers, a development which sealed the assembly as a one-party legislature.
At the gathering with the ward and local govt leaders of the party, the lawmaker declared his ambition for the second term.

Speaking at the event, Adeleye said his decision was largely influenced by Governor Dapo Abiodun and his administration’s record of achievements.
“I want to thank the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his steadfastness and inclusive leadership, which has influenced this decision. I believe I have garnered the necessary experience within my first term to do even more for our people,” he said.
Addressing concerns about his position as Minority Leader, Adeleye emphasized that service to the people outweighs political titles.
“It is not about position; it is about the people. What is the essence of holding a position without tangible results? I have done so much for my people even while in opposition, and I believe being in the ruling party will enable me to do more to deliver the dividends of democracy,” he added.
Projecting confidence ahead of the next election, he assured party members of an overwhelming victory in Odogbolu.
“In 2023, we won 170 out of 178 polling units in Odogbolu Local Government. This time around, APC should expect a total victory. Odogbolu has become an APC stronghold, and we will win convincingly,” – he narrated.
Adeleye also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and readiness to abide by its decision regarding the mode of primary election.
“I have submitted myself to the party. Whether it is consensus or direct primary, I am ready to abide by the party’s decision.”
Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Odogbolu Local Government, Akogun Muyiwa Idowu, expressed satisfaction with Adeleye’s defection to the ruling party, describing him as a responsive and people-oriented leader.
Similarly, the Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Diya, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Princess Olushola Adeyinka, welcomed Adeleye to the APC and commended his performance, urging constituents to support his re-election.
