A 40-year-old man, Kolade Ayodeji, was on Monday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun over alleged breach of peace.

Ayodeji, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and conspiracy to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt.Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some other persons still at large on Oct.17, 2016 at about 10.00 a.m. at Baba Ode Village, Ota.

Mustapha said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace when he forcefully entered a land belonging to one Mr Tony Menemiofoh, the complainant in the case.

He told the court that the defendant damaged the complainant’s fence valued at N400,000.

The offences, he said, contravened Sections 249 and 390 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

He added that the sureties should show evidence of tax payments to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned till July 1 for mention. (NAN)
