The immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, has called on Ogun State political leaders to end “hostile succession and divisive politics” as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
Speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday during a meeting with Women in Ogun, a group of female politicians, Isola emphasised the need for political harmony, warning that divisive politics hampers the state’s progress.
The meeting, held at the GRA Ibara residence of former Governor Olusegun Osoba, provided a platform for Isola, a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, to highlight the detrimental impact of acrimonious political transitions on governance in Ogun.
“Since 1999, Ogun State has witnessed bitter transitions, with successive governors failing to ensure peaceful handovers. From Osoba to Gbenga Daniel, from Daniel to Ibikunle Amosun, and from Amosun to Abiodun, it has been a cycle of hostility. We must put an end to this politics of acrimony by 2027,” Isola said.

Isola also noted that there is widespread agreement among the Egba people that the next governor should emerge from Ogun Central Senatorial District.
In her remarks, the leader of the group, Mrs Bose Akande, lamented the marginalisation of women in Ogun politics, describing it as a “use and dump” strategy. She assured that the group would rally behind any governorship aspirant who genuinely supports women’s involvement in politics.
