The Ogun State Government in conjunction with a private firm, China-Africa Investment has begun the reconstruction of the 10 kilometre (Km), 8 metre single carriageway Agbara-Igbesa road through a Public- Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
The decision to reconstruct the road is part of the state government’s drive at revitalizing economic activities at Agbara- Igbesa axis, in Agbara-Igbesa Local Council Development Area.
According to a statement by Mr. Ayokunle Ewuoso, the spokesman of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the project would allow the road stand the test of time and equally beautify the area.
Speaking at the occasion of the ground breaking ceremony of the reconstruction of the road, the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said the decision to reconstruct the road was based on government’s determination to further enhance the status of the area as the industrial hub of the Gateway State.
Amosun who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Kayode Ademolake, said the PPP arrangement model, is based on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) adding that the model was not only aimed to involve the private sector in the provision of key infrastructure but also free needed fund to enable the state provide more dividends of democracy.
He pointed out that those whose buildings were affected due to the road reconstruction had been compensated by the state government noting that residents of Igbesa town as well as Okada riders and Keke Napep operators will be exempted from paying tolls on the road when completed.
