Heads of security agencies in Ogun State have resolved to tackle smuggling, cultism and other criminal activities and warned of consequences on attacks on security agencies in the state.

A statement by the spokesman of the police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi yesterday said the security heads took the decision at their joint meeting in Abeokuta, where they reviewed the security situation in the state.

He said the meeting appraised various security challenges in the state and resolved to tackle them.

He said the security chiefs noted the rising cases of smuggling and confrontations between smugglers and security agents which is leading to fatalities.

“The meeting observed with dismay the incessant attacks on security personnel while performing their legitimate duties. It therefore resolved that attack on any security operatives under any guise will no longer be tolerated as such act will be met with appropriate force permitted under the law to manage violence.

“The meeting also observed with great concern the rising rates of cultists clashes among groups in some parts of the state, and decided to clampdown more heavily on the perpetrators and their accomplices, as security agencies will not be watching while some unscrupulous elements make life unbearable for citizenry,” Oyeyemi said.

He stated that the state is not among the four international borders reopened by the federal government, thus, the enforcement of closure of the border is still on.

“Therefore, international borders in the state remain closed, and security operatives will continue to enforce the order and use every means at their disposal to discourage smuggling in the state.

“Parents are advised to warn their wards to desist from any act capable of undermining the peace of the state as such will be met with stiff resistance,” he added.
