The Ogun State Police Command yesterday disclosed it has arrested two suspected cultists for allegedly killing a member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Kolawole Ajomale, in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North local government.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspects stormed Ajomale’s residence and allegedly shot him in the head and stomach in the presence of his expectant wife.

A statement yesterday by the Command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects, Korede Pariosho and Jide Afolabi, were arrested following an investigation by detectives at the Ijebu-Igbo division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent Kazeem Solotan, which led policemen to the hideout of the suspected cult group.

Oyeyemi said Pariosho and Solotan were arrested and the gun they used in killing their victim recovered.

According to the police spokesman, the suspects had on April 5, 2020 attacked Ajomale in his house at No. 20, Odo Balogun Street, Oke Sapen, Ijebu-Igbo, and shot him on the head and stomach in the presence of his pregnant wife, consequent upon which the victim died on the spot.

Oyeyemi said, “On interrogation, the two suspects confessed to killing the deceased. They claimed to have done it in revenge of the death of one member of their cult group whom they alleged was killed by OPC men in 2017.

“They further confessed to have vowed since then to kill any member of the OPC they sight in vengeance of the death of their late colleague,” Oyeyemi said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
