The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ogun has appealed to the state House of Assembly to prevail on the executive to implement the Sports Commission Act.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the law came into being in 2019.
The Ogun SWAN Chairman, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, made the appeal on Wednesday, when he led other executive members on a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide.
The assembly had in December 2019 passed the State Sports Commission Bill and State Sports Trust Fund Bill for the overall development of sports in the state.

It was also part of the moves to further boost sports activities and youth development in the state.
“Implementation is needed to promote sports at the grassroots level,” Ogunsiji said.
While commending Elemide on his efforts toward grassroots sports development, he said that Ogun SWAN was committed to partnering with the assembly to take sports development to all levels in the state.
In a response, Elemide appealed to Gov. Dapo Abiodun to take action for the implementation of the Sports Commission Act.
He recalled that the request for the creation of the Sports Commission and Sports Development Trust Fund came as Executive Bills.
He said “The bill was an executive bill. I was part of it.
“I was part of the passage. And we did our own beat. We have passed it.
“So, we can only implore our governor to speed up action on it.
“There must be a reason the implementation has not started.”
The speaker assured the sports writers of the government’s commitment to sports development. (NAN)
