The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, says the state will soon open a sex offenders’ register for convicts as part of efforts to curtail the prevalence of sexual abuse.

Dipeolu disclosed this at the public presentation and launch of a book titled ‘The Law at Your Fingertips’ at the State Judiciary Complex, Kobape, Abeokuta.

She said the need for the register had become imperative due to the increase in the number of sexual offence cases in the society, especially the defilement of minors, which she said had become the order of the day.

The judge noted that offenders’ names would also be circulated on all state-owned media to encourage victims and their family members to access justice.

She urged victims to report sexual abuse cases to the appropriate authorities for justice to be meted out to culprits.

According to her, the state would focus on some selected laws like the Ogun State Child Rights Law 2003 to ensure the protection of children’s rights, as majority of the victims in that category were the downtrodden like housemaids, wards, orphans and the weak.

Dipeolu added that such laws were among those to be transcribed into the Yoruba language and pidgin English to make them more accessible and understandable to the common man
