Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said they arrested a suspected cult leader, Akibu Tikare, who had been on the wanted list of the police at a robbery scene.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested by policemen attached to Ogijo Division following receipt of a distress call.

The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Tuesday, said the police division received a distress call that armed robbers were operating between Gbaga and Kamalu area of Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

Oyeyemi said the DPO of Ogijo, Muhammed Suleiman Baba, quickly led his men to the scene with some members of the vigilante group where the suspect was arrested.

He, however, said other members of the group who reportedly came from Ikorodu and Owutu areas of Lagos State escaped.

He explained that, “Some of the victims of the robbery have identified him as one of those that robbed them of their property. Recovered from the suspect is a locally made double-barrel shotgun.”

Oyeyemi said the CP had directed the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation, and that he also directed that the escaped members of the gang must be apprehended in order to put an end to the gang’s operations.
