Ogun wrestlers demand better training equipment

The Head Coach of Ogun State wrestling, Badmus Adebayo, has appealed to the state government to provide the wrestlers with necessary equipment and other logistics especially mats to improve their performance at major competitions.

Adebayo made the call while speaking with newsmen on the wrestlers’ performance at the just concluded Governor Diri National Wrestling Championship in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State.

The coach, who said 15 medals were won by the athletes in various categories at the championship, attributed the feat to hard work and determination.

He also said if supported with the necessary training facilities, Ogun State would rank high among other states in the combat sport.

Adebayo commended the chairman of the Ogun State Wrestling Association, Dr. Taofeek Babalola and other members of the association for improvising the current mat used in training, saying the provision of a standard mat and financial support was required to boost the morale of the wrestlers and prevent them from being poached.

Daily Trust gathered that Ogun state wrestlers won two gold, five silver and bronze 8 medals in the competition that attracted top athletes from all parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the State Wrestling Association has commended the impressive performance of the state’s athletes.

The Chairman of the Association, Babalola who gave the commendation through the media officer, Olusegun Folarin described the 15 medals won by the wrestlers in various weights categories at the championship as laudable.
