The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has distanced itself from a statement circulating in the media that purportedly declared former South-East governors persona non grata.

The statement criticised some political leaders from the region over their reported support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those mentioned in the earlier remarks include David Umahi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Sullivan Chime and Chris Ngige.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, the National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said the views expressed did not represent the organisation.

Okwu urged the public to disregard the remarks, stressing that individuals are entitled to their political choices.

“It is within the rights of the former governors and indeed anyone else to decide who they want to support ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.

He also called for civility in political discourse, noting that differences in political alignment should not lead to personal attacks.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, our people should understand that support is better built through engagement and persuasion,” he added.

Okwu further emphasised the need for respect toward public figures, stating that leaders who have served in various capacities deserve to be engaged constructively, regardless of differing opinions.

He reiterated the group’s commitment to promoting unity and responsible political participation in the South-East.
