The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has welcomed the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to secure the transfer of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from the United Kingdom to Nigeria.

National President of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, made the remarks in a statement issued on Thursday in Enugu.

Okwu said it was encouraging that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had initiated steps toward facilitating Ekweremadu’s return to Nigeria. He noted that the group had previously sought federal intervention on the matter.

A delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has begun consultations with UK authorities on the possibility of transferring Ekweremadu to continue his sentence in Nigeria.

Okwu also commended recent federal appointments involving individuals from the South-East and appealed to the government to ensure that the transfer process is seen through to completion.

According to him, the organisation appreciates the government’s efforts and hopes for a favourable outcome.
