George Ojemen, a Controller at Northwest Star Alliance Limited, emerged winner of the MTN Prestige Golf Classic grand finale held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos. Ojemen secured the top prize ahead of Bolanle Iyamu and Seye Ogunsina in the exclusive tournament designed to reward premium customers and support sports development in Nigeria.
Speaking on the significance of the game, Golf Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, Afolabi Balogun, described golf as a platform that strengthens corporate relationships while promoting healthy lifestyles among executives. He noted that the multi-city format of the competition has helped expand the sport across the country and provided amateur golfers with opportunities to compete on different courses.
At the awards ceremony, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, praised the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by participants and highlighted the growth of the tournament since its maiden edition in 2025, which was won by Solomon Nwaigwe.
Reflecting on the 2026 edition, which began in Rivers State and culminated in Lagos, Ikenna-Emeka reaffirmed MTN Nigeria’s commitment to sports development. She said the company’s support extends beyond connectivity, adding that golf remains one of the disciplines receiving attention. Regional champions, including Port Harcourt leg winner Ochade Ajabor, are expected to represent the golfing community at the 154th British Open at Royal Birkdale in July.
Among dignitaries present were MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Tobechukwu Okigbo; former Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Adegboyega Alabi; and former MTN Ghana and Nigeria CEO, Michael Ikpoki.
Lady Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, Annie Eimiakhena, said the tournament promotes competition, networking and business opportunities, further cementing its place on Nigeria’s corporate sports calendar.
