The winners at the Ikeja Golf Club Management Committee Inaugural Kitty went home with trophies and gift items as the club ushered in a new executive year under newly elected captain, Segun Odunuga.
The competition, held at the club house in Ikeja on Thursday evening, celebrated outstanding performances from members across different categories, with Babatunde Ojo emerging as the overall winner of the tournament.
For his feat, Ojo received a trophy and a Hisense bedside refrigerator, while Bidemi Babatunde Ojo finished as runner-up and was rewarded with a trophy and a rechargeable solar standing fan.
Mojeed Aberugba claimed the second runner-up position and received a golf bag alongside a cash voucher. Nike Saliu and Idowu Akinyemi, who placed fourth and fifth respectively, also smiled home with cash vouchers.
In other categories, Uche Ubakanma emerged winner in the Ladies category, while Wale Odunlami was honoured as the Veteran winner.
Speaking during his inaugural address, the new captain of the club, Segun Odunuga, unveiled ambitious plans aimed at improving the club’s facilities and overall golfing experience.
“The primary reason why we are here is to play golf. We intend to make the course playable all year round – during the wet season and dry season. Despite the fact that Dubai is an arid region, they still have lovely fairways and greens and we want to make Ikeja Golf Club like that,” he said.
Odunuga added: “My prayer is that by the time we finish our tenure, we would have been able to achieve our set targets. And that the fairways in Ikeja are the most playable fairways and best putt in Nigeria.”
He also disclosed that the executive committee plans to complete ongoing projects, install solar-powered inverters to cut energy costs, and light up the course for improved aesthetics and security.
According to him, the club will also host several competitions and inter-club tournaments within and outside Nigeria, including matchplay events with clubs in Ghana, Port Harcourt, Abeokuta and Ibadan.
