The appointment of Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been described as a game changer for the sector.

Ojulari, who hails from Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, succeeded Mele Kyari as the head of the country’s oil giant in a shake up by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The announcement also affected members of the entire NNPCL board.

Reacting to the development, his kinsman and chairman of the local government, Hadji Femi Yusuf, thanked the President for finding the oil technocrat worthy to lead the NNPCL.

He said his appointment coupled with his track record of excellence as a global oil player will revolutionise the sector for the benefit of the country.

According to him, the entire council appreciates Mr President for this historic choice “In the annals of the Ifelodun local government and Kwara State.

“With the appointment of Engr Ojulari, Ifelodun has gained the much sought after political relevance in the country as a principal beneficiary of the renewed hope agenda of Mr President and due Partakers in the expanding inclusivity principle of Asiwaju’s democratic practices.

“His appointment is a round peg in a round hole and ticked all the boxes to make the desired impact to raise the bar in the country’s oil and gas sector”, he said.

While also appreciating Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the appointment and unwavering support since he became the council boss, Yusuf said the council and state will continue to stand on Tinubu’s mandate.

On the challenges ahead for Ojulari in the sector, Hadji Yusuf expressed confidence that he will salvage the situation.

He advised him to fix his eyes on the ball to achieve President Tinubu’s expectations for the sector.

“The Nigeria oil economy is beset with a myriad of challenges.The situation is bad and requires urgent salvation. (But) this is why you have been invited by Mr President. The road may be rough and tough, but your eyes must be fixed on the ball to achieve the vision of Mr President for Nigeria’s oil sector”, he said.
