Handing down the sentence, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, said the prosecutor was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.

Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the lady boarded the accused’s motorcycle in an estate while on her way home from church and that he assaulted and raped her in the process.
The defence counsel, Barrister Ramon Bashir, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, stressing that the defendant had no past criminal record.
