Okene LG to compel landlords to provide toilet facilities

The Supervisory Councilor for Health in the council, Mr. Salihu Adeku, told journalists that already efforts were on to enact bye-law that would ensure that all landlords comply with it.
Adeku said the law when enacted would put an end to the deplorable habit of open defecation by people in various parts of the local government.
He said it was regrettable that people would build houses in these modern days but fail to provide toilet facilities in them, saying that the  practice of open defecation in bushes and road sides in the area was not only an eyesore, but also poses very serious health hazard.
The Councillor said the chairman wanted to build public toilets in each ward during his tenure as Liaison Officer, but the communities failed to provide land for the project.
He said sanitary inspectors in the LGA would be equipped to enforce sanitary laws in all the nooks and cranny of the council, urging the people to embrace the law as soon as it is passed.
