Okey Wali: NBA President cancels trip to Tokyo, Japan

In a statement made available to Daily Trust yesterday, Alegeh said that he took the decision in view of the abduction of former NBA president Okey Wali, SAN by unknown persons since October 11.
“NBA members are concerned about his (Wali’s) safety, health and well-being after ten [10] days in captivity. Okey Wali, SAN is a peace loving man who has worked assiduously for the enthronement of rule of law and protection of human rights. He does not deserve to be put through this harrowing experience,” he said.
The NBA, according to him was in contact with the Okey Wali family and the various security Agencies who are constitutionally charged with providing for the safety of all Nigerians.
“NBA appreciates that efforts at securing his immediate release are currently in progress and advices all members to remain calm and patient and not to take any steps that may jeopardise in any way the efforts aimed at securing his safe release from captivity.
“In view of the seriousness of the matter and to be in a position to monitor progress of the efforts to release Our Past President Okey Wali SAN, I cancelled my plan to attend the International Bar Association Conference in Tokyo, Japan and I have maintained personal regular contact with the family and all relevant agencies. The NBA restates its appeal to his abductors to release him immediately,” Alegeh said.
