21-year-old Godwin Okoko emerged as the champion of the professional category at the Stephen Ebaretonbofa 50th Birthday Pro/Am Golf Tournament held at the Benin Golf Club, Edo State.

According to results released on Sunday night, Okoko posted a gross score of 141 to secure victory, finishing ahead of Francis Epe, who returned 144 gross for second place. Collins Odile and Sunday Olopade shared third position with 149 gross apiece.

In the Senior Tour category, Donatus Isuku claimed top honours with a gross score of 158, while Victor Enaigbe followed in second place with 163 gross.

Dr Emmanuel Ighodaro (handicap 11) won the men’s handicap 0–12 category with a net score of 70. Jude Igbinadolor (12) placed second with 73 net, while Felix Utaji (11) finished third with 74 net. Osazee Iyare recorded the best gross in the category with a score of 80.

In the men’s handicap 13–18 division, Gordon Imadiyi (17) emerged winner with 76 net. Ehi Akpata (18) finished second with 78 net, while former captain Dr Charles Ajayi (16) placed third with 79 net. Osayi Eghosa (28) won the handicap 19–28 category, ahead of Hon. John Yakubu (24) and Reuben Mgbodi (26).

Ehis Igbinadolor (6) claimed victory in the ladies’ handicap 0–28 category with a net score of 74. Former lady captains Nkeiruka Awiaka (17) and Deborah Otabor (14) finished second and third, respectively. Maryann Shaibu won the best gross prize with a score of 94, edging Sandra Emina on countback.

In the ladies’ handicap 29–36 category, Tinyan Otuomagie (34) secured first place with a net score of 71. Queen Aigbokhaode (32) and Paula Oghumah (31) placed second and third, respectively. Omosefe Osaghae (31) won the ladies’ veterans prize, ahead of Oseluese Dawodu (27).

Chairman of the organising committee, Kingsley Okunbor, expressed satisfaction with the tournament, noting that it successfully celebrated Captain Engr. Stephen Ebaretonbofa’s 50th birthday while showcasing the growth of golf in the Benin Club Golf Section and fostering camaraderie among participants.

The week-long tournament, which concluded on Saturday, attracted over 250 golfers, both professionals and amateurs, who demonstrated high levels of skill and sportsmanship. Activities also included a gala dinner in honour of Ebaretonbofa, attended by friends, family, and fellow golfers.
