Okorodudu, who was recently reinstated to his national coaching position by the National Sports Commission (NSC) made the recommendation while speaking on the relevance of Lagos State Monthly Boxing Show.
The boxing competition, sponsored by the Lagos State Boxing Hall Fame, led by a former Commissioner of Finance, Chief Olawale Edun takes place every last Saturday of the month.
Okorodudu, a quarter-finalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, said in an interview that the tournament had helped the state to be far ahead of others in boxing.
“It is an ideal competition that other state associations ought to emulate to bring about a turnaround in boxing in Nigeria.
“Since inception, the tournament has made Lagos to become synonymous with boxing as hidden talents have been discovered,” said the coach, who was named Africa’s Best Boxer in 1985.
According to him, the state parades a plethora of good amateur boxers, the likes of Olayide Fijabi and Taiwo Agbaje who are products of the enviable competition.
