The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Chief Tonobok Okowa has reiterated his desire to stamp out doping among athletes.

Addressing newsmen during the reception for the Team Nigeria’s U20 athletes who participated in the just concluded World Athletics U20 Championships in Kenya, Okowa said he detests athletes doping to compete.

“We will make sure we bring the category we are in doping from A category to 0. I don’t like to hear athletes using foul means to compete. They must compete clean. I just formed a commission that will take care of that,” he said.

He further declared that since he has been recognized by the World Athletics as the AFN president, his task is to close the dissenting voices within the federation.

“The World Athletics have spoken and I see myself now as the authentic president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. I am going to reach out to them and I have always said that I have never had issues with them on personal grounds.

“They are my friends and I will reach out to them. Ibrahim Gusau and Sunday Adeleye are my personal friends and I won’t fight them over positions. My prayer is that they should come close, for us to sit down and find a way forward,” he declared.
