Police in Edo State have arrested Mr Kelly Okungbowa, popularly known as Ebo Stone and a political ally of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, over alleged assault of a police officer on duty.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 30, 2026, along the Upper Sakponba axis of Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State.
Sources said the officer was carrying out lawful duties when Okungbowa allegedly attacked him during an encounter, leading to his arrest by police operatives.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson in Edo State, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect is in police custody and would be charged in court after investigations.
She stressed that no individual is above the law and urged members of the public to respect law enforcement officers carrying out their duties.
Reacting to the development, human rights activist and President of the Talakawa Parliament, Kola Edokpayi, condemned the alleged assault, describing it as unacceptable.
In a statement, he commended the officers involved for showing restraint and professionalism despite what he described as provocation.
Edokpayi said police officers deserve respect as public servants tasked with protecting lives and property, noting that grievances against security personnel should be addressed through established procedures rather than confrontation.
