A 35 year old woman is currently being detained at the Homicide unit of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

The woman, simply identified as Onyinyechi, allegedly killed her husband of 10 years for openly supporting one of the leading political parties that contested Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections.

The incident occurred at Military Zone Junction, Ejigbo, Lagos. She was said to have stabbed her husband in the heart, killing him on the spot.

It was gathered that the suspect was first arrested by the police from the Ejigbo Police Division, but was later transferred to SCID.

According to eyewitnesses, the couple, who were expecting their first child together, had a minor argument over their party affiliations and it irked the wife who snatched a knife and stabbed her husband.

A neighbour, however, said; “We really don’t know what went wrong because on the morning of the incident, the couple had both sat outside, talking.

“They later went indoors and hours later, Onyinyechi ran out to say her husband was dying. By the time we got there, he had lost so much blood. He died before we could take him to the hospital.

“Apparently, after she stabbed him, she tried to stop the flow of blood herself but in the process he lost so much blood. He might have survivedif we had known on time.”

It was further gathered that the police were called in and they promptly arrested the suspect, after which they took the corpse to the nearest morgue.

Already, police said investigations have begun but attempts by our correspondent to speak with the Divisional Police Officer at the station yesterday proved abortive as she was said to be on elections duty.

But police sources said the suspect had confessed that she stabbed her husband.
