Olayinka Alade highlights innovation and resilience shaping Africa’s engineering future

Engr. Olayinka Alade, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of G & D Buildings and Engineering Limited, has emphasized that innovation and resilience will be critical in shaping Africa’s engineering and infrastructure future.

Speaking on innovation and resilience shaping Africa’s engineering future, Alade said the continent holds vast opportunities in construction, power, infrastructure, and technology.

He added that Africa’s progress depends on indigenous professionals who combine global standards with resilience, innovation, and strong professional values.

Reflecting on his journey, Alade noted that working with expatriates across engineering, construction, power, and oil and gas sectors in Nigeria exposed him to international best practices and the importance of discipline, precision, and innovative thinking in project delivery.

He explained that G & D began in 2018 as G & D Realtors Limited, focusing on property development and real estate services. Direct engagement with projects soon revealed that successful real estate development required strong engineering systems, quality construction, and reliable infrastructure.

This insight led to the creation of G & D Buildings and Engineering Limited in 2019, expanding the company into construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure development.

“We realized that delivering quality real estate requires more than buildings. It requires strong engineering systems, reliable infrastructure, and innovative thinking,” Alade said.

He added that the company invested in young, dynamic professionals across the built environment including architects, surveyors, builders, civil engineers, and energy experts while prioritizing continuous professional development.

As capabilities grew, G & D focused not only on constructing projects but also on designing sustainable systems that support communities and long-term economic growth.

“We do not just build structures. We apply innovative engineering solutions that improve performance, efficiency, and sustainability,” Alade explained.

To broaden its vision, he introduced the G & D Consortium to integrate construction, engineering, energy, oil and gas, maritime, and hospitality sectors under one strategy. This structure allows the organization to scale impact while contributing to Africa’s industrial and infrastructure development.

Alade, with a background in Applied Physics with Electronics and Electrical Systems, believes engineering must evolve beyond technical structures to solve societal challenges.

“Engineering is a tool for innovation. When combined with resilience and commitment, it becomes a powerful force for solving problems and building the future,” he said.

He concluded that Africa’s engineering future will be shaped by professionals ready to think creatively, work tirelessly, and apply innovative solutions to the continent’s infrastructure and development challenges.
