Dr. Dare Olayiwola, Vice Captain of the Sadique Baba Abubakar Golf Course, clinched the top prize in the men’s category, while Lady Captain Bella Smith emerged winner in the women’s division at the inaugural GolfGrace Tournament, held on Saturday at the Sadique Baba Abubakar Golf Course within the Nigeria Air Force Base, Shasha, Lagos.
Other standout performers included Joy Ayonote and Tony Obot, who also claimed notable victories across various categories.
The one-day event brought together over 100 golfers—ranging from graduates of the GolfGrace Academy to seasoned veterans and guest participants—all vying for honours in a vibrant and well-contested atmosphere.
For many, the tournament was more than just a competitive outing; it was a memorable celebration of community, skill, and the spirit of the game, earning enthusiastic praise from attendees and players alike.
“This is the first time I’ll compete in an event like this, and being a first-time golfer, I found it very exciting. I enjoyed every bit of it,” said Stanley Ohens, who featured in his first competitive golf event. “The next edition means a lot to me. I’ll be more prepared and ready to take on anyone.”
Lady Captain, Elephant Cement Golf Club, Sagamu, Joy Ayonote, who also made the winners list, expressed optimism about future tournaments.
“I’m looking forward to the next edition. I’ll be better prepared and hopefully win with an even better score,” she said.
Reflecting on her triumph, Bella Smith praised the organization and competitive spirit of the event.
“From the moment we arrived and saw the ambiance, we knew it was going to be a serious competition. All I needed to do was give my best, and I’m glad I came out in flying colours.”
