The Methodist Boys’ High School Lagos Old Boys’ Association MBHS-OBA, has launched a N25 million endowment fund to provide 50 computers and internet connectivity for students ahead of the commencement of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE).

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced the full commencement of CB-WASSCE in 2026.

Speaking ahead of the 2026 CB-WASSCE, the Chairman of the MBHS-OBA 2000 Set, Engr. Olanrewaju Jimoh, said during a press briefing that the provision of computers for the students is part of the set’s plans to mark its 25th anniversary.

He added that the endowment fund also seeks to enhance the school’s infrastructure, provide academic prizes in honour of deceased members, and support their families.

He highlighted the academic prizes to include the Nelson Akpe Prize in Biology, the Raji Mustapha Prize in Physics, the Lukman Giwa Prize in Mathematics, and the Rafiu Gbajabiamila Prize in Accounting.

“This fund will support the families of deceased members and assist struggling members of the set,” he said.

The Co-Chair of the Planning Committee, Mr. Ellias Ajadi, stressed that the anniversary lecture, themed ‘Alumni Associations as Catalysts for Regenerative Patriotism in Nigeria’, will be delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) of the University of Lagos, Professor Muyiwa Falaiye.

“This thought-provoking topic aligns deeply with the MBHS School Anthem, especially the fourth stanza, and will spark a conversation on patriotism,” he said.

He emphasised the need for alumni of legacy schools to renew their patriotism, describing it as the key to sustaining such institutions.

“MBHS Lagos is far more than a school; it is a living community of excellence, discipline, heritage, and character.

“Its products, scattered across various spheres of human endeavour, stand today as pillars of value, leadership, and integrity. Within the family of MBHS sets, ours remains an enigma of its own kind — no bluster, no grandstanding, just quiet impact and steady progress,” he said.

He added that three old boys will be recognised: Chief Rasheed Fanimokun, Engr. Theophilus Oguntala, and Mr. Akinbayo Adenubi.
