Olorunleke Olorunshola Wins Tech Icon of the Year 2024

Olorunleke Olorunshola, a Microsoft 365 and Power Platform developer and solution architect, has been named Tech Icon of the Year 2024 at the Empire Magazine Africa Awards. The recognition highlights who won, what the award is, where it was conferred, why it matters, and the field it celebrates. It acknowledges his steady work helping organisations use low code tools to solve real problems at scale.

“This award means a lot because it recognises real results that help people work smarter,” said Olorunleke Olorunshola. “I build to remove friction, reveal insight, and give teams the confidence to deliver at scale.”

Over the last year, he led an enterprise workflow modernisation that automated more than thirty core processes using Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Dataverse. He delivered executive dashboards in Power BI for health and safety leaders in the United Kingdom, giving decision makers a clear view of risks and trends. He also designed a compliance and risk application that standardised issue tracking and reporting, so teams could act faster and with better evidence. Alongside delivery, he mentors developers and non technical users through workshops and practical training that speed up adoption.

“We keep solutions simple to use and rigorous under the hood,” Olorunleke added. “Clarity, governance, and measurable outcomes are how trust is earned and sustained.”

Colleagues say his strength is turning complex needs into tools that are easy to learn and maintain. He focuses on clean data, clear workflows, and good documentation, so value is not lost when teams change or projects grow. His work in financial services, construction, government, and digital marketplaces shows a consistent pattern. He starts with the business goal, builds with security and scale in mind, then teaches teams to own and improve the solution over time.

At this year’s Empire Magazine Africa Awards, peers and partners from across the region gathered to recognise work that blends innovation with responsibility. The selection process highlighted projects with clear performance indicators, proven time savings, and reusable patterns that can be replicated across departments and organisations.

“This recognition pushes me to keep raising the bar,” said Olorunleke. “Next, I am deepening work on secure, scalable architecture and expanding mentoring so more teams can build confidently with Microsoft Power Platform.”

The Empire Magazine Africa Awards celebrate innovators whose work converts technology into practical outcomes for people and organisations. For Olorunleke, the award reflects a body of work that includes more than twenty five enterprise Power Apps and Power Automate deployments, efficiency gains of up to sixty percent, and a Center of Excellence model that helps large teams build safely, govern well, and move faster with Dataverse, Dynamics 365, Power BI, and Microsoft 365.

With the Tech Icon of the Year 2024 award, Olorunleke plans to expand his leadership in enterprise solution architecture, evolve reusable components for Dataverse and Dynamics 365, and continue guiding organisations through change with training and community support. His guiding line remains clear. Build with purpose. Lead with impact.
