The Chief Executive Officer of TAO Energy, Dr. Tobi Oluwatola has emerged as the overall net winner at the 2025 African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) golf tournament, held at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club in Abuja.

 

Playing off a 19 handicap, Oluwatola recorded a gross of 86 and a net of 67 to top the leaderboard in a field of over 250 golfers. An elated Oluwatola described the win as a breakthrough moment after years of trying.

“It was a hard-fought battle. I am very elated, obviously, because I have been working very hard for this,” he said. “I have had a lot of second-place finishes in this tournament, but this is the first time I am finishing as the overall winner, so this cup holds a special place in my heart,” he said.

In the Ladies’ Division, Rose Nyam with a rock-steady round of 92 strokes and no handicap allowance to soften the blow, she laid claim to the Best Gross trophy, lifting it high as fellow competitors applauded her flawless drives.

Not far behind, Saratu Khadi playing her first big event carding a 101. Thanks to her 24-stroke handicap, Saratu’s net 77 was enough to earn her runner-up honors.

But it was Maureen Apute who ultimately stole the Ladies’ spotlight. Maureen’s smooth, controlled play delivered an 87-stroke round; after subtracting her 18-stroke handicap, she stood with the tournament’s best net score of 69.

Over in the Men’s Division, veteran Victor Carba blazed through 18 holes in just 84 strokes—good enough for Best Gross and an admiring audience. Hot on his heels was Salisu Ali, whose single-stroke deficit earned him the runner-up gross medal.

The Men’s net competition, however, belonged to the tournament rookie Tobi Oluwatola.

Tobi’s round of 86, offset by a 19-stroke handicap, left him with an astonishing net 67—five strokes clear of the next best. Harsh conditions tested many, but Tobi’s calm under pressure set him apart.

Behind him, Charles Ota (gross 96, HCP 24, net 72) and Aliyu Ambubsa (gross 92, handicap 15, net 77) rounded out the net podium, each earning praise for their resilience.
