The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has demanded creation of a commission or an agency by Federal Government to cater for the wellbeing of the senior citizens.

Akanbi submitted that several aged people in Nigeria are lonely and depressed, saying there is high time the Federal Government prioritised their welfare to serve as an encouragement to the younger generation.

The Oluwo spoke on Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State when the Senior Citizens Care Foundation, presented him with a Senior Citizens Certificate.

The foundation is established and chaired by a former International Criminal Court (ICC) Judge, Bola Ajibola.

The Chairman of Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Senator Biyi Durojaye also received the certificate.

Speaking with journalists shortly after receiving the honour, Oba Akanbi he had been committed to assisting the aged in his domain and beyond, while efforts are in the offing to create a home for senior citizens.

Oba Akanbi also enjoined the government at the center to start a campaign that will help the youths to get prepared for there old age.
