The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has affirmed Dr. Emmanuel David Ombugadu as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election.
The Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee in the state, Abdulmaleek Danga, said Ombugadu emerged through a consensus arrangement after party members selected him.
“I am only directed to affirm Dr. Emmanuel Ombugadu as the Nasarawa State 2027 PDP gubernatorial candidate, as party members have selected him through consensus,” Danga said.
He described the process as peaceful, free, fair, and credible, formally declaring Ombugadu as the party’s flagbearer at the conclusion of the exercise.
Speaking after the affirmation, Ombugadu thanked party members and delegates for elevating his status from an aspirant to a candidate through their unwavering support and endorsement.
“By your support, your endorsement, and this affirmation, you have converted our status to that of a candidate. I want to say thank you very much,” he said.
He noted that his emergence followed wide consultations with party elders and stakeholders, including the state working committee and the national leadership. According to him, these consultations produced a unified direction for the party in the state.
“If you permit me, we are going straight to work. I will start work immediately because we don’t have time,” he added.
Ombugadu used the occasion to introduce his 2023 running mate, Yahaya Ohinoyi, as his running mate for 2027, describing him as the “deputy governor-in-waiting.” He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of the nomination.
“If you permit me, may I, as part of my number one function, introduce the Deputy Governor for 2027. He is no other person than Yahaya Ohinoyi, who will become the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, supporting my candidacy come 2027 by the special grace of God,” he said.
The candidate announced that the party would soon commence a statewide tour of local government areas to launch a vigorous campaign aimed at winning the Government House on Shendam Road. He added that the party’s 2027 blueprint would build on the foundational frameworks laid out in their 2019 and 2023 manifestos.
“We have a comprehensive blueprint. It is an improvement on the 2019 and 2023 versions, tailored for 2027,” he said.
Ombugadu also announced that the PDP would fully participate in the upcoming by-election in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, confirming that the party’s aspirants are working to harmonize their positions and present a single consensus candidate.
“In the next twenty-something days, we have a by-election in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District. Our party will participate and win,” he declared.
He thanked the INEC officials present and urged supporters to remain steadfast, stating that the party is firmly “on the ballot, and we will be, by the special grace of God, your governor come 2027.”
Ombugadu was the PDP governorship candidate in 2023 in a keenly contested race, the outcome of which was ultimately settled by the Supreme Court in favor of the incumbent, Abdullahi Sule.
