Omeri said this during a facility tour and courtesy visit at the institute in Idu Industrial Area, Abuja at the weekend.
The NOA boss who was impressed at his findings during the facility tour commended the institute for domesticating some non-indigenous plants with immense pharmaceutical values, urging them to name some of those plants which have no local name after President Goodluck Jonathan.
Some of such drugs include Artimisia Anua for the treatment of malaria as well as Andrographis Paniculata, Nuclear Latoforia and King Bitter for the treatment of diabetes and other diseases.
Omeri called on Nigerian entrepreneurs and the corporate world to invest in NIPRD so as to strengthen the institute’s contribution to global efforts at disease control.
Speaking earlier, the NIPRD Director General, Prof. Karniyus Gamaniel, who conducted his NOA counterpart and his team around the NIPRD facility said the institute had successfully developed and commercialized some drugs for the treatment of several medical conditions including NIPRISAN for sickle cell anaemia, NIPRIMAL for malaria, NIPRIDAB for diabetes, NIPRIFAN for fungal infections and NIPRIMUNE for immune boosting.
He said these drugs had been trademarked at the Ministry of Trade and Investment for the purpose of quality control in line with global best practices.
He however disclosed that in order to meet the increasing demand for the institute’s services across the country, there was need for the institute’s presence in all the states of the federation with well-equipped facilities.
