On Aliyu Modibbo’s tenure as FCT minister

For instance, in the ministerial report on repositioning land administration, it is on record that Dr Aliyu Umar Modibbo’s administration had as few as 23 messy land deals out of the 1,079 plots that he allotted during his tenure that spanned almost two years. Compared to Malam Nasiru el-Rufai’s allocations of 12, 672 plots within five months, with over 10,000 of the allocations being messy deals, I am puzzled why nobody chose to see the prudency of Modibbo.

Of the 12, 672 plots el-Rufai allocated, only as few as 2, 563 had ministerial approval, just 20.2 per cent of the total land deals he handled, while Modibbo’s 1,079 allocations had 1,060 ministerial approvals, about 98.2 per cent. His performance supersedes that of Senator Aliero Modibbo who allocated 6,165 plots of land, but 1,725, representing 28.1% of which lacked appropriate ministerial approval.

Dr Modibbo’s performance was not hyped in the media, but the good things that he did is clear for everybody to see now. Everyone would agree with me that land administration is the life wire of the FCT and if a minister resists the temptation of having his fingers soiled in the mess, he should be hailed.
