One of the contestants and indeed the aspirant to watch is Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, a man with the common touch, a grassroots man per excellence and a great mobilizer of the people.

He was governor of Sokoto State for eight years, during which time the state underwent rapid positive transformation and development. Alhaji Bafarawa is a good material for the Presidency. One of the obstacles to the likes of Bafarawa is the cult- like stranglehold of the PDP which since 1999 has denied Nigeria the services of humane and intelligent people at the top echelon of leadership. That is why since 1999 when the PDP took over from the military, not much progress has been made in critical areas of our national life.

Alhaji Bafarawa is not a stranger to presidential elections. In 2007, he contested the presidential polls on the platform of his party, the Democratic People’s Party (DPP). Like some other contestants, Bafarawa was rigged out by the PDP cabal.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is lucky to have a man with the reach and appeal of Bafarawa among its presidential aspirants. Bafarawa is eminently qualified to rule Nigeria going by his record of good governance in Sokoto State.

In view of his fine attributes and record of service, it is expected that delegates of the ACN, converging in Benin City, Edo State for the Presidential primaries of the party, would have no problem selecting this dynamic personality and patriot, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, as its presidential candidate.
