On high suicide rate in Nigeria

The rate at which people commit suicide now is very alarming. They seem to think that taking their lives is the answer to their problems and the easy way out. But it really is not. Their family members and loved ones get to suffer the pain of bereavement. You leave them wondering if they could have done more or been more attentive.

If you are thinking of taking your life because of the problems, please remember the guilt, pain and agony your loved ones will go through once you commit suicide.

The story of the youth corps member in Kogi State who committed suicide recently by taking sniper, an insecticide, is really heartbreaking. It is quite unfortunate that her parents trained her to that level, only for her to take her own life.

Let me use this medium to appeal to anybody who is depressed and considering suicide to rethink. You can talk to someone about what you are going through and your state of mind. Remember, once there is life, there is hope.
