The latest tactics now is to resort to the print media as the only tool of campaign in attempting to tarnish the image of Senator Albishir and in the process all manner of dubious characters and groups have become media consultants overnight.
Last Monday night, one needed to see the message of one of such groups that goes by the name Youths Organised For Better Emphases. For an unknown group that has never spent a dime to issue a line of release, whose alleged office in a local government property remains under lock and key, to suddenly have millions of naira available to it to ‘sponsor adverts’ seeking to stop a candidate of a political party in newspapers of its choice during an electioneering year suggests that ‘enough water is passing under the bridge’. One is forced to ask where the group was when Albishir won the ANPP gubernatorial primaries in 2007 but fraud and political rascality denied him his ticket? Or was the scenario not dangerous enough? Or maybe it was not worth the investment then, shebi?
While it is not the purpose of this opinion to reply the nonsensical piece that was churned out in some dailies by the group which openly displayed gross ignorance, deliberate falsehood and serious abuse to the psyche of Yobe indigenes, it must be stated that while some form of media war is expected in any electioneering campaigns, the deliberate orchestration of dirty lies and use of propaganda in misdirecting issues is as dreadful as the crime of murder.
One cannot but utter great astonishment at the group’s list of ‘Albishir’s villifiable’ sins, some of which they allege are: ‘being declared wanted by the Police, substitution of delegates, offering of his personal guarantee to a bank loan, connivance with Atiku (and yet Jonathan won in Yobe State?) at the PDP presidential primaries, insensitivity to the plight of his workers, making post- governorship appointments, contract defaulting and many other laughable remarks.
For the group which alludes to being registered, I am of the opinion that what it has done is to totally bury its name, purpose and commitment to its alleged goals (if indeed it has any) in the abysmal depth of greed and partisanship. It would not be now, but very soon it would dawn on them that power lies in the hands of Yobeans and that truly, not all the waters in the rough rude sea can wash off the balm of an anointed king if it is the will of Allah.
It must be reiterated that if the writings on the wall is neatly read, it would be understood that in very clear terms, gone are the days of deceit and electoral fraud. Just as INEC has put paid to all forms of subversive will which Albishir was a victim of in 2007, so also have Yobeans collectively decided to say no to propaganda and electoral fraud. You cannot continue to pull the wool over the eyes of indigenes and presume that they shall remain in darkness while they are not better for it and have nothing to show for it. Gone are the days of economic slavery and Insha’Allah, His will shall prevail in a most radiant manner. It is the time for issues-based politics and honesty before the masses in Yobe, and au revoir to falsehood, propaganda and non accountability.
Meanwhile, in his determined effort, Albishir is establishing stronger bonds and re-igniting his pact with Yobeans through his economic blue print and manifesto. This is what the masses deserve from the rural areas to the villages and not propaganda. If they decide that Albishir is their choice and come out en masse to vote for him on Election Day, let the propaganda being adopted also join the queue and vote.
