And when it was proving to be difficult to sell Banye’s candidature to peasant politicians and their supporters in his constituency, some party members from the PDP stepped in. A letter was presented showing concern and support in Banye on behalf of Charanchi and Batagarawa constituencies. If I could recall, one of the members stood up and read: ‘It was Rimi in the House, then Batagarawa, now the seat is vacant for Charanchi.’ The PDP state chairman accommodated the new plan and thanked Rimi and Charanchi people for bringing in this new idea.
To strengthen this there was an official meeting between people or board members of the three local governments, and it was agreed that in the next election it is Rimi’s turn. It was agreed, written and signed before the members.
This constituency is popular among the other constituencies in the state. For example, it is within Batagarawa Local Government that there exist all the two universities, other two higher institutions, the state and federal secretariats. Charanchi Local Government is known for hosting famous markets and Rimi local government is well known for agricultural activity like farming, rearing of animals and transportation services. That agreement brought understanding and harmony among people within the constituency. It would not be out of place to now believe that some mischievous citizens are pushing Banye to renege on the agreement and break the promise that was made beyween the people of the constituency. I am appealing to him to dump his ambition to seek another term in office. This is not the best course at this material time. Learning to honour promises is what makes a man. As an honourable man he should stand firmly on his words. He should pay no heed to those agitating for his return but he should rather bring to mind the agreement done before witnesses who gathered before the PDP elders of the three local governments in the constituency that after he has served for four years he is going to step aside so that it would be the turn of Rimi to produce the next candidate. Allowing everything to degenerate into political jingoism and militancy with him as the centre of attraction is synonymous to ridiculing his good character and image. Rimi people are so optimistic in him and that was the reason why they supported his emergence without argument. I hope he will obey and respect the rule of law and ethics of the society to please abandon his intention to pursue the seat again come 2011. Rimi people believe they will be paid back in the same coin by offering Banye their maximum support in 2007. I hope he will do so accordingly in the interest of the community and the entire state in general.
