Did that description mean that the Fulani, as the Tutsi of Rwanda, were ripe for extermination? The drumbeats started with the demonization of the Fulani. In recent days, we read stories about ‘’suspected Fulani gunmen’’; but when the Fulani are killed, we never hear of “suspected Tiv”, “suspected Berom”, etc., gunmen. It is only the Fulani that are fit to be labelled ‘’gunmen’’.  Asari Dokubo reminded us the other day that the Fulani are invaders from Guinea! It is all part of the groundwork for the offensive on the nomadic Fulbe, victims of climate change vicissitudes that get nothing from the three ties of government, yet work tirelessly in drudgery to ensure the food security of Nigeria. What a tragedy of the common and collective guilt of the governments at all level, and indeed all of us, for failing to protect the lives of this most vulnerable group of people in our midst. The town-as opposed to nomadic- Fulani would think they are safe: THEY ARE NOT; I DARE SAY THEY ARE NEXT.

The paradox is that be sure by the time the system is done with the poor nomads, the next target is going to be all of us that have refused to raise our voices when this heinous crime against humanity is being committed.
