On the prevailing security challenges

The primary purpose or basis of government as vividly enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended is the protection of lives and property. By definition, it is the responsibility of the government to secure the lives and property of its citizens at all times because the issue of security cannot be compromised. The credibility of the government rests squarely on its ability to provide maximum security by protecting its citizens against any perceived threat. In other words the legitimacy or legality of any government will be questioned when it failed to carry out this important constitutional obligation. In view of the foregoing scenario, the prevailing security situation in the country is not only worrying but tragic because there are security threats in virtually every part of the country. But the most worrying challenge is that of Zamfara State where some heartless and ruthless individuals are ravaging and destroying people and their properties and it seems the authorities concerned are reluctant for reasons best known to them to end this madness.

President Buhari should be very proactive in decisively dealing with this barbarism because it is the responsibility of the President to secure our lives by providing adequate security for all citizens to excel. The President as the Commander in chief of the Armed Forces should expedite all necessary actions to ensure that people of Zamfara State are no longer living in danger and apprehension. The Minister of Defence is from, so naturally the issue should not have been allowed to have completely gone out of hand. A lot of people are beginning to ask serious questions about the style of administration of president Buhari but we are still optimistic that President Buhari has what it takes to rectify himself only that he needs to be very decisive and proactive in decision making because great leaders were successful simply because they very decisive whenever confronted with challenging situations.

Conclusively, we have to have our say in how we are governed after all we have voted for the President in each and every election that he had participated since 2003. Long live the Federal Republic Nigeria
