Our leaders must understand that intimidation and victimisation of workers cannot work at all. Let the government provide favourable working condition and good pay-packages for its workers. Teaching is a respectable and noble profession. It is the inhumane treatment of teachers that has caused the present declining standard of the education in this country. Many of our best brains have been leaving the academia for other more lucrative ventures. Some of our best teachers are forced to leave the shores of our country for other countries where teachers receive preferential treatment. It is a shame that now Nigerians are now rushing to some African countries like Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania and even Ethiopia where they spend huge amount of money for the education of their wards.  Now, as a result, these countries earn considerable income and thus manage to make their education sector an attractive field for investment.

The government should comply with the court’s judgement by re-instating the lecturers so far cleared by the apex court. Meanwhile I am hopeful that the same gesture be extended to the remaining 44 lecturers. Their salaries and allowances must be paid to them so that they could settle their accumulated debts and resume normal life like human beings.
