On Zaria to Pambeguwa road rehabilitation

Permit me space to draw the attention of minister of Works Babatunde Fashola over the snail speed and poor execution of road rehabilitation from Zaria to Pambeguwa awarded to Proportion Construction and Dredge Works Ltd.

The rehabilitation of the road which was awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing since 2017, has become an eyesore. It was reported that the contractor handling the project has collected over one billion naira for the rehabilitation but has not covered up to three kilometres. Even from Zaria where the work commenced, one could see depressions and   potholes already dotting the newly rehabilitated portion of the road. The drainage system is poorly constructed.

The poor condition of the road has lead to the deaths of many travellers who ply the road. It is sad to note, also that men of the underworld have taken over extorting or carrying their nefarious activities with relative ease because of its bad condition of the road.

The million naira questions begging for answers from people subjected to all manner of hardship are: Is the federal ministry of works aware of the level and quality of work being done? Does the company awarded the contract have the requisite technical experience to execute the contract? I think the federal comptroller of road or minister of works should mobilise their men to access the work.

The rehabilitation of the road for which the contract period has since elapsed is nothing to write home about. From how the rehabilitation is done, the company lacks expertise to do the job.
