Ondo State Government has pledged N10million for the winners of the 2026 Ondo Auto Rally.
The rally, scheduled for April 4 in the state capital, Akure and Ilara-mokin, is themed “Greatest show on wheels”.
Femi Akarakiri, The Director, Business Development & Investment Management, Ondo State Development Agency (ONDIPA), said the government’s involvement is due to the recognition that the annual rally has attracted over the years.
“Government is delighted that the rally has grown to become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state,” Akarakiri said.
Adeoye Ojuoko, President of the organising team, Work & Play, said the state government has also approved the use of a portion of Akure for the drag race, where locally designed and built race cars would be on parade.
“This 9th edition of the rally would focus on promoting tourism and culture through local content, including locally built racing cars and sporting infrastructure development,” Ojuoko said.
Among the activities for the rally include Drag Race where locally built performance vehicles would be featured, in addition to MTB XCE Cycling Competition for cycling enthusiasts, tree planting programme to underscore environmental sustainability and an air show where locally built drones will be on display.
The Ondo rally, which highlights Nigeria’s growing automotive engineering capacity and innovation, has become one of Nigeria’s key motorsport activities on footfall and tourism impact.
