Speaking at a training programme for tomato out-growers at Arigidi-Akoko, the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, expressed confidence in the sustainability of the company through the massive production of tomatoes as the main raw materials for the company.

The governor noted that the company would create job opportunities for the teeming job-seeking youths, saying that the main attraction of his administration was the ability to create jobs and enhance capacity building for the people to survive.

He charged the participants to see the training as part of self empowerment, adding that their contributions would go a long way to sustain the new industry.

He however assured the people of the state of greater hope, especially in the resuscitation of moribund industries and employment generation.

Earlier in his address, the chairman of the company who is also the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Yele Ogundipe, disclosed that about 500 hectares of land suitable for the production of tomatoes would be cultivated while over 200 hectares have already been cleared in preparation for the take-off of the scheme.

Ogundipe assured the farmers that the scheme would acquaint them with new skills, improve their income and provide them access to credit facilities as well as other farm inputs.

While stressing the importance of food security to the survival of a nation, Ogundipe assured that the company would assist address the problem of food insecurity in the state and the country.
