The Secretary of the Council of Senior Omolowos, Chief Akinmade Usikaiye, has disclosed that the new Olowo of Owo, Prince Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, will be installed on August 23, 2019.
The Elewuokun traditional ruling house in Owo kingdom had picked Prince Ogunoye, the Director of Finance and Administration in the Ondo State Civil Service Commission as the new Olowo-elect.
Prince Ogunoye emerged the new Olowo following a keenly contested process by 18 princes, who had earlier been screened by the senior Omolowos after the demise of Oba Victor Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi.
Ogunoye got 14 votes out of the 15 votes cast by the 15 senior Omolowos, who possess the sole responsibility to select a king for the ancient town, in an election conducted by officials of the local government.
Usikaiye told our correspondent in Akure yesterday that the Council of Senior Omolowos would soon brief the press on the development.
