Ondo distributes N60m science equipment to schools

Governor Olusegun Mimiko while commissioning the science equipments said that in modern societies, innovations in science and technology would continue to be a dividing line between the developed countries which determined the status of any nation.

Mimiko represented by Commissioner for Information, Mr Ranti Akerele pointed out that if science and technology were well taught in schools, it would bring about food security, creation of small scale industries, rural and urban development as well as total eradication of poverty in the society.

He urged the principals and teachers of benefiting schools to put the equipment into proper use and guard them against theft and damage.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Adenike Fatogun commended the present administration for repositioning the education sector to meet the millennium challenges.

Her words ‘the regular procurement and distribution of science equipment to all public secondary schools and training of science and mathematics teachers will serve as a major break-through in the advancement of science and technology.

‘This will enhance our student’s performance in Mathematics and science subjects in external examinations and competitions’.

Fatogun expressed happiness that students from the state represented Nigeria in international Physics and Chemistry Olympiads held in Mexico and London in June 2009 respectively, adding that the state representatives also won seven medals at the JETS competition in Damaturu, Yobe state, in June and at the just concluded STAN competition in Minna , Niger state in August this year among others.

The Commissioner pledged that the ministry would continue to intensify efforts in monitoring the proper use of the equipment in schools.
