Ondo gov’s wife seeks AfDB’s partnership in women empowerment

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty-Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has called for African Development Bank’s (AfDB) collaboration in the area of women empowerment and social development in the state.

Mrs Akeredolu made the call during a technical session with the visiting AfDB group’s management team led by its Senior Director, Mr Ebirima Faal, at the Ondo State Executive Council Chamber, Akure recently.

She recounted some of her achievements within her husband’s one year in office to include; ICT training for 105 girls from across the state, where all the participants went home with a tablet PC; Solar Renewable Energy training for over 200 girls from the state and beyond; and skill acquisition training for over 1000 women in five LGA’s in her FOWOSO women empowerment programme, which saw 100 women and girls smile home with a laptop.

The Senior Director of the AfDB, Nigeria Country Office, Mr Faal, commended Mrs Akeredolu for what he described as the “passionate work” she was doing in Ondo State, stressing that it was in line with what the bank was committed to.

Mr Faal further pledged the support of AfDB to the programmes of the office of the wife of the state governor.

In her remarks, one of the management team’s members of AfDB, Linda Amadi, revealed that the bank has a job for youths in Africa initiative which is hoped to generate 25 million jobs for African youths in the next 10 years.

She assured Mrs Akeredolu of women inclusion and that the bank was keen in incorporating gender in all its activities and programmes.
