The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure has affirmed the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and his deputy, Olayide Adelami.

A panel of justices on Thursday held that the appellants failed to prove allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the November 16, 2024 governorship election.

The panel, comprising Justices Nimpar Yargata, K.I. Amadi and I.M. Sani, unanimously dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Alliance (AA).

The parties had sought to overturn the judgement of the Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal, which dismissed their petitions challenging the validity of the election.

Aiyedatiwa, who contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 366,781 votes and winning in all 18 local government areas of the state.

He defeated his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the PDP. The appellate court’s decision follows a string of earlier legal victories for Aiyedatiwa.
