Abbas Mimiko, the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the upcoming Ondo State election, has asserted that he does not require the endorsement of his elder brother, former governor Olusegun Mimiko, to secure victory.

Mimiko, a younger brother to the two-term former governor, emphasised that his focus is on winning the support of the masses rather than relying on his brother’s legacy.

Speaking to journalists in Akure, he stated, “I don’t want him to give me any endorsement. What I need is the endorsement of the people of Ondo State.”

He expressed confidence in his ability to govern independently, noting his involvement in his brother’s administration, particularly in health programmes. “I was part of the success of the ‘Iroko’ phenomenon, but I want to be judged on my own plans and capabilities,” he said.

Abbas Mimiko outlined his agenda, which prioritises rejuvenating the state’s economy, agriculture, education, and security.

He criticised the major political parties, PDP and APC, for their failures, positioning ZLP as the alternative choice for the electorate. “The ZLP is now the third force in Ondo politics, ready to bring reforms to the major sectors of the state’s economy,” he declared.

Abbas, a psychiatric doctor, concluded by stressing his deep understanding of governance and the state’s needs. “I’m not starting as a novice. I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of governance, and I’m ready to lead Ondo State forward.”
